The international conference on “The Quran: The Modern World” will conclude today in Oxford, the UK.
According to the website of Oxford Quran Institute, the conference, which began Sunday, is aimed at shedding light on problems that arise from misreading and misunderstanding of the Quran in the modern world and the West in particular. Out of some 200 papers submitted to the conference secretariat, 18 have been presented during the two-day event, which has been organized by the Iranian Cultural Center in the UK in cooperation with Oxford Quran Institute and the Iranian Quran News Agency (IQNA). The conference began at 2 pm on Sunday, August 16, at Lady Margaret Hall College, with the opening speech followed by presentation of papers on the following topics: - Whither Averroism: Does Ibn Rushd’s interpretation of the Qur’an provide the basis for a modernist rereading of Islamic law? - The Language of the Quran: Miraculous or Genius? - Tafsir Diya al-Quran: an Urdu Interpretation of the holy Quran written by Muhammad Karam Shah al-Azhari - Sindhi Translations and Commentaries of the Holy Quran in the19th and 20th Centuries - Bridging the Spaces between the Quran and International Relations Theory - Quranic Revealed Scripture vs. Judeo-Christian Scripture: A Muslim Perspective of the Universal & Particular in the Scriptures - An aspect of the Relationship between Religious law and Civil/Secular Law - Dr Muhammad Hamidullah's Le Saint Koran - The Quranic Framework concerning Muslims treatment of non-Muslims |
